My Romance Writers Weekly pals are getting creative this week. The topic – flash fiction with a topic of candles, chocolate and a scarf.
Honestly, I’ve never done flash fiction before, so I have no idea if I’m doing it right, but hey…may as well take the maiden voyage sometime, right? And besides…candles, chocolate, and a scarf? Surely, I won’t screw that up. (I tacked on the hot dude just in case. A little visual distraction…just in case.)
If you’re visiting from Dani Jace’s site, welcome! Hope you enjoy my virgin foray into this thing called flash fiction.
Mary set her markdown Godiva chocolates and French vanilla candles on the counter at the checkout and checked her watch. Only three more hours to go and another torturous Valentine’s Day would be over.
“Excuse me.” A deep, velvety voice sounded right behind her.
Mary turned.
A tall, well-dressed man with raven, wavy hair stood behind her. The John Kennedy Jr. type, complete with black cashmere sweater, tailored pants, and long wool gray coat. His full lips lifted in a sexy smile. “Sorry to bother you, but you’re standing on my scarf.”
“I’m what?” God those lips were incredible. The kind you savored, slow and lazy for as long as reality would allow. And his eyes. Soft green with flecks of gray. Mystical.
He crouched at her feet and tugged at a black scarf, the very tip wedged under her boot heel.
“Oh, shit.” She sidestepped and snatched it out of his hand, dusting off the part she’d trounced on. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t even—”
He pulled the fabric free and scanned the items beside the register. “Valentine binge?”
Heat crept up her neck and fanned out across her cheeks. “Um, more like surrender.”
His low chuckle wrapped around her. “That can’t be right. Pretty girl like you, alone on a lover’s holiday.” He draped the scarf around his neck and offered his hand. “My name’s Jake.”
She laid her hand in his and his.
His long, strong fingers curled around hers. A warm, confident touch. The kind a woman dreamed about feeling in all the right places. “I’m Mary.”
“What do you say we add a little nutritional value to the mix? There’s a diner a few blocks away.” His eyes crinkled on a sly grin. “Unless you’re in a hurry to get to the decadent part?”
Yeah, that last question for me is kind of redundant. If there’s a hot man offering decadence on a cold Valentine’s night I’m damn sure in a hurry to get the party started. 🙂
So, now it’s time to see how Jami Denise spins our three ingredients. If I know Jami, it’ll be juicy. Last one there’s taking a cold shower.

August 19, 2014 at 12:03 pmI love it! My flash fiction hero is Jake too- we should link them- they hook up at the store and then she runs off to steal a ruby? After the decadent part of course.

August 19, 2014 at 1:59 pmI’m about to make the rounds and see what everyone else came up with. It’ll be interesting to see if I was the only one who thought of the dreaded V Day. 🙂

August 19, 2014 at 2:00 pmHa! In my mind, with those 3 words, I had two options; Valentine’s Day or something on the bondage spectrum. I didn’t trust myself enough for door number two. 🙂
