Playlist Fun – Tracks from What Janie Wants

The last few years, my musical tastes have run toward what I would call good-time, crank it up rock. We’re talking Shinedown, Hinder, Black Stone Cherry, Slash w/Myles Kennedy, Shaman’s Harvest, and Seether…just to name a few.

Now that doesn’t mean rock is all I like. I was a DJ for years and had a band off and on from my second year in college until I was thirty-two, and we played everything from Merle Haggard to Aretha Franklin. My musical tastes seem to shift depending on where I am in life. Maybe my latest preference for octane rock has something to do with midlife crisis. Who the heck knows?

But the last few weeks I’ve noticed a new shift…and I’m blaming it on What Janie Wants.

What Janie Wants is a quick and slightly-naughty novella slated for release in late June. It’s about a woman who’s just turned forty (Janie) and is taking a one-week respite from reality to recover from her recently inked divorce. (Hubby ditched her for a younger model…that rat bastard.)

Anyhoo…our girl Janie meets a tongue-waggingly scrumptious young man (Zade) while on said vacation. And when I say young, I mean twenty-six…as in only five years older than Janie’s oldest son.

Zade sees zero problem with their age difference and sets out to prove just how desirable Janie truly is. The results are several awkward moments, a heaping helping of steamy interludes, and a few life-changing decisions.

Now to the playlist that’s feeding my story…

Two of them are so popular you’re pretty assured of hearing them with very little channel surfing (if any). The last one…well, let’s just say there’s a very fun scene near the end of the book where Janie finally lets her hair down and gets her groove on.
